CSA International publishes free white paper discussing the threat of counterfeit product "e.g. made in china" approval marks warranting aggressive detection and enforcement action

Toronto, ON — CSA International has published a white paper discussing the threat posed by counterfeit product approval marks warranting aggressive detection and enforcement action. The paper was written by Manny Gratz, Manager, Anti-Counterfeiting & Intellectual Property Enforcement, CSA Group, and is available at no charge.

Counterfeit products have become increasingly common in North America in recent years, despite the efforts of manufacturers and customs officials to combat the problem. Unscrupulous imitators sometimes use counterfeit product approval marks on products, which can potentially expose consumers, manufacturers, retailers, installers, and product specifiers to safety-related risks.

The white paper lists examples of unsafe products that have been found bearing counterfeit product approval marks and describes some of the safety and legal hazards posed by these products. The paper also describes how CSA International and the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) are working together to combat product counterfeiters.

Samples of CSA International’s approval marks are shown along with an explanation of how properly authorized products receive these marks. The paper also provides guidance on how to detect counterfeit approval marks and directions on who to notify when a counterfeit CSA mark is found or suspected.
